The compact crossover with hatchback versatility beloved of greater Baltimore drivers is back for a third generation. It's been revamped from the ground up, too, with a restyled and even more fetching exterior, a new powertrain, and new trim levels like GT-Line and X-Line. Needless to say, it's once again upending the small SUV segment. Check out all you have to look forward to for the drive, right here!

Power and Performance

For one, 2020 Soul is a blast to drive. Base LX, step-up S, the sport-inspired GT-Line, rugged X-Line, and penultimate EX feature a spirited 147-horsepower, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine. It's an eager accelerator, ready to deliver 132 pound-feet of torque. Rise to GT-Line Turbo, however, and you gain a powerful turbocharged 201-horsepower, 1.6-liter I4 shelling 195 pound-feet.

Handling options span a gamut just as wide. There's a six-speed manual standard in base models, an Intelligent Variable Transmission appears in steps up, and a smooth-operating, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission's built-in at the top of the line. The result: exceptional fuel economy. Count on up to 29 MPG in cities like Bel Air, MD, 35 MPG down the highway to Lutherville, and 31 MPG between Parkville and Maryland beyond, according to EPA estimates and depending on trim.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

From your driveway to wherever the open road calls and back again, the new Soul has you covered. Smart driver aids range from forward collision avoidance, lane change, and lane keeping assist systems, pedestrian detection, and blind spot and rear cross-traffic collision warnings to smart cruise control, a driver attention warning system, and more.

Interior Features and Technology

Kia Soul is known for its attention to accommodations, and the 2020 model year delivers it in spaces. Under a power sunroof with a manual sunshade, a whopping 102.2 cubic feet of passenger space spreads out, home to woven cloth, premium tricot cloth, and SOFINO leatherette-and-cloth seating options. They're available heated, and together with air conditioning, or the automatic temperature control with a cluster ionizer available in higher trims, they create the lap of luxury. Soul is just as friendly to cargo, too, offering up to 62.1 cubic feet of space for it with rear seats collapsed.

The centerpiece of your entertainment and connectivity for the ride is a standard 7-inch touchscreen. It becomes a huge 10.25-inch UVO link infotainment system in later trims, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard throughout the line for smartphone integration. With available wireless charging, it's easy to keep your electronics energized while you locate your destination via optional premium navigation. You'll have SiriusXM and HD Radio support to keep you occupied along the way, coming in loudly and clearly through a six-speaker audio system that only an optional Harman/Kardon upgrade in select trims can improve.
